   A gallery along the streets!

Best treasure hunting season is late spring and summer, in broad daylight. Screens disappear in the winter darkness.

The Painted Screen Society's "Gift to the Street" screens found homes along the 400 block of S. East Ave.  That very same city block is depicted on this East Avenue Arabber window screen painting by Anna P. A colorful flower vase screen painting by Dee Herget lives next door. More to come!

I am sad to see that even new screens disappear from our city windows. This house was since sold and the windows were replaced in 2014. Old screens rarely fit new replacement windows, permanently removing this painted screen from public street view.

Living at Home: A dramatic display of hundreds of household goods used over the course of the past several centuries includes a butter churn; a poster of Farrah Fawcett; a fondue set; and a hand-painted screen door by Dee Herget. Each item tells its own story of how a house becomes a home.

Timeless Painted Screens, was a rare screen painting exhibit, hosted at The SkyLofts Gallery Artist Community, at 3701 Bank Street, Baltimore, MD 21224,   August 11th thru September 3rd, 2009.

Screen painting has been a unique Baltimore City tradition ever since grocer William Oktavec advertised his produce on his first store window screen painting in  1913.  Those who remember the thousands of painted screens of days gone by still love and cherish them today. Those who view painted window screens for the first time are amazed by their timeless magical simplicity. SkyLofts Gallery was one of Baltimore’s rare locations where you can view an exceptional collection of contemporary Baltimore screen paintings and find the right one to add to your art collection.
